I came across some old Yachting magazines that Google Books has digitized into the public domain. From 1914, here is an image of the 14-foot cat-rigged L.S.S.A dinghies racing on Toronto Bay.

Blog to track where Classic International 14 sailing dinghies are now located in North America. I am also interested in archival material (photos, videos, correspondence) on Classic International 14's. Am wondering who the builder was of these early boats? Also, I read that Ackroyd built 2 different style boats 1) was for Recreational or Cottage and another were specifically for racing. Does anyone know what the differences would have been? I purchased an Ackroyd or Lssa 14 last year that is claimed to be around 1918. There are many aspects too exacting of the Ackroyd that its hard not to believe it is. But there are some differences like no sign of a brass mast ring on deck and hole a little oversized. came with wedges to tight mast... this would allow for slight change in mast angle. It has 3 rope pins rather than the typical 2 seen on most Ackroyds. The Gaff has two cables for connecting halyard. One of them as seen on most is about 3 feet of travel ; just one side of center. The other cable goes from about end to just shy of jaw end of the gaf. Why 2? Also seems my deck has a much steeper runoff than most I've seen. Any input would be great!
ReplyDeleteSounds you have a racier craft than just the generic cottage Aykroyd. Probably a LSSA 14 footer.
