This blog is, I admit it, all about nostalgia. Indulge the blogger on this one as he posts a video of the party for the 1981 International 14 Team Races. The party was held at the Robert Crown Sailing Center, US Naval Academy, Annapolis Maryland and features the sailors from the English, Canadian and the U.S East and West Coasts.

I still have that tie but have lost the hair...brother Chris sits behind me and the fascinating jeremy Pudney sits next to me, lighting up a cheroot as he continues to work on selling me his boat.
ReplyDeleteMy most vivid recollection of the event isn't a particularly pleasant one. TM, a Canadian team member decided to show his respect for the winning East Coast team by urinating from the Crown Center balcony. I had to restrain my brother from throwing him off. Other that the churlish behavior of a few Canadians, it was a wonderful event.
West Coast Fourteeners never wore ties, that I can remember. Ties are churlish!
ReplyDeleteThis is quite a scary collection of photos....a number of UK team members look as though they are having intelligent conversations. Unfortunately aforementioned Canadian behaviour can be corroborated...it was a brilliant event - one of the best where participants were polymath sailors, not hedge fund managers - there's a gorgeous blond woman talking to Eric Arens in one shot - that's my wife.......!
